How Does It Work?
Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is thought that “the blood follows the qi (vital energy)” and that acupuncture can enhance the flow of qi using tiny needles to stimulate points that control qi flow through the body’s energetic channels.

According to TCM, health and vitality radiate from the inside out only when the qi flows freely and the body is in energetic balance. By increasing qi flow to the head and neck, blood flow is also increased, caujsing the facial muscles and fascia to become more refreshed, rejuvenated, and tonified.

Contemporary Western Medicine Theory

As an acupuncture needle penetrates the skin, this tiny injury produces a minute electrical discharge (called the “injury potential”) that stimulates a local inflammatory reaction in that area.

This is evolutionarily adaptive since the body doesn’t know if you’ve been bitten by a poisonous snake or other critter, or scratched by a toxic plant - only that the integrity of the skin has been broken.

To stop any potential toxin from spreading, a more systemic immune reaction also occurs which includes enhanced blood flow to the area (containing increased T-cell lymphocytes and macrophages) as well as increased fibroblast production.

This in turn leads to greater collagen and elastin formation which, all together, nourishes the skin, tones the facial muscles, increases elasticity, softens wrinkles, tightens loose skin, and improves overall facial color tone. The result is a totally natural improvement in your facial appearance.
